Sometimes the universe conspires to introduce you to exceptional music. After casual mentions and WhatsApp gig posters kept throwing the same name our way, we finally caught up with Chris Shannon (Last of The English Gentlemen) at The Grove. What followed was a masterclass in indie folk storytelling from a Nottingham native whose literary influences span Shakespeare to Leonard Cohen. Fresh back from Sweden with luggage in tow, Chris delivered an intimate solo set that had the crowd in complete silence before erupting for an encore. Late-night chance encounters led us to Confyde – the genre-bending rock project of Martin Jackson. Our writer Ethan Schoonderwoerd experienced his first ever Dot to Dot festival and was completely blown away by what Nottingham's music scene has to offer.
Twenty years since its humble three-venue beginnings, Dot to Dot has grown into a city-wide celebration of music, spanning over 10 venues from the intimate Carousel to the legendary Rock City main stage. In 12 hours, Ethan witnessed everything from heart-pumping metal at Black Cherry Lounge to soul-stirring performances at Rescue Rooms, discovering hidden gems and experiencing the festival's incredible diversity.
From the throat-searing intensity of Skitz to the headline-stealing performance by Fat Dog that left crowds screaming for more, this year's festival showcased both emerging local talent and established acts across every genre imaginable. Whether you're into indie rock, electronic pop, or acoustic soul, Dot to Dot proved that Nottingham's music scene is alive, thriving, and ready to surprise you.
